new interface design for the web
Let me first start out by saying I am not a UI/UX designer but I do think about usability design quite often as I'm trolling through the Internet.
Lately I have been thinking about the design of UI with regards to different input interface devices and how mobile phones, tablet computer and others are changing the way we interact with things. The Kinect is a very good example, though right now there is no easy way (that I know of) to navigate the web using gestures, I'm sure it's only a matter of time where someone might look to change this. Looking at this learning interface, it becomes clear that so much more is possible. People are very excited to make things like Google Motion a reality it would be crazy to think that every day browsing couldn't be handled much the same way.
Since I am not a designer, I'm not sure exactly how to tackle this problem, whether it's to start implementing bigger buttons so finger tips can press them, using JavaScript or CSS for swipes, who knows. I imagine going to, or seeing a conference in the very near future, where the presenter is standing on stage making swiping gestures with his hands instead of using a clicker to get through the presentation.
So the question is, how do we make websites more interactive so it will be fun to use when these other interfaces are available to the masses.
